WELCOME to Chemistry 10 Online!!!!

When you take one of my online classes, you get the same exact notes that I use in my face-to-face classes, links to excellent other websites, and the most attentive online instructor period!  During the week and on most weekends your question will be answered no later than the next day and most of the time within 6 hours.

This course emphasizes the Chemistry of Every Day Life which you will find interesting and applicable, at least I hope so! Most students are surprised at how much they enjoyed this chemistry course

Class begins on August 20 , and you will not be able to access the class until later in the day on the 19th.  But it is IMPERATIVE that you LOG ON TO THE SHASTA ONLINE CLASS ON AUGUST 20!!! You have things that you need to complete.

The entire course is on the internet.  Unless unusual situations occur, there is no face to face component to the course.

This version of this course will be delivered over the internet using a program called Canvas.   You also must expect to spend the same amount of time on this course to what you would have spent on the face to face version of this course.  You should log onto this course everyday, check the course calendar, and make sure all of your work is up to date. You should expect to spend at least nine hours per week on this course.  Furthermore you must have sufficient self-discipline to set and adhere to your own and to the course’s timelines.  The internet version of this course is equal to or more rigorous than the face to face version.  DO NOT FALL BEHIND!!   I will do everything I can to help you.  Always remember NO FREAKING OUT!!  Freaking out is not allowed in my courses.  You just need to ask me for help.

For information on how to access your online course go to the Shasta College homepage and click on "Shasta College Online"
When you register with Admissions, you are automatically put into that course on.  To register online go to If you have problems contact admission at 530-242-7650.  After you register, you can enroll in courses online using My Shasta available from Shasta College homepage.

To view most course documents you will need the free Acrobat Reader from Adobe. It is free. Get Acrobat Reader.

This an INTERNET only course and is very different from a face to face course. It is entirely online.

Get the Syllabus and READ this first!!!  An internet course is more difficult for many students because it depends solely on self discipline.  Here is the Fall 2018 syllabus for the August 20 start please read it.

Chem 10 text is Chemistry for Changing Times, 14th ed. by John Hill, et al. 9780321972026.  Available at the Shasta College Bookstore or any on-line book retailer.  I will also accept the 13th ed. 9780321750877 or 12th ed. ISBN 9780136054498.  Search for these online using the ISBN number and you will find them much cheaper than the Shasta College Bookstore.  The 12 edition will be very cheap.  Be careful some 12 editions only have 18 chapters in the text with an online link to the last 4 chapters.  THAT LINK DOES NOT WORK!!!!  The text has 22 chapters and about 640 pages depending on the edition.  Here are two links that will connect you to a list of these texts for cheap.  The12th edition and the 13th

In the online course, there are the worksheets from which your quizzes will be generated.  The quizzes will from material covered off  the worksheets.  These worksheets are for you to complete in preparation for the quizzes; you do not have to turn them in.  I have provided answer sheets also.  If you have any questions about any of the material, let me know.  I will also provide you with a study guide for each exam.  The exam questions come right off the study guide.  I do not provide the answers to the study guide.  That is your job.

I also have provided lots of notes and hyperlinks for the class and I am always adding more.   These  should be used in addition to the text.
